Photographer Dan Monick photographed Atmosphere and the Rhyme Sayers for seven years, documenting their rise from an unknown Minneapolis hip-hop collective to one of the most followed and successful independent hip-hop acts in the nation. But photographers are terrible editors, and Monick was no exception: we worked closely with him to whittle down the story he was telling and select the most impactful images that would excite die-hard fans and casual newcomers alike. The design itself was merely a framework for showcasing the Rhyme Sayers story and Monick’s images.
Sold in book and record stores, as well as online, with a special-edition audio CD. A limited-edition version of the book, with a 10" record inserted into the cover, is also available.
A book signing tour with photographer Monick and members of Atmosphere is ongoing.
The book is helping to increase awareness of Atmosphere, about to release its 7th studio album, and of the Rhyme Sayers collective. It has also catapulted photographer Monick into the national hip-hop spotlight as well as won him attention from clients such as Alternative Press, Target, NY Times, and Rolling Stone.
