Principle Six – Co-opertive Trade Movement

By Spunk Design Machine

The Idea

Principle Six, was the idea of Equal Exchange, a worker-owned company that sells fairtrade coffee and other foods. Taking that idea was Spunk Design Machine who, working closely with Equal Exchange was charged with naming P6, developing the identity and support materials for the launch along with designing for interior spaces and new promotions. The styleguide produced for P6 was the perfect jumpstart that the various P6 partners needed. Food co-operatives quickly jumped on board producing their own P6 materials and promoting the launch day.

Delivery of Work

The introduction of Principle Six was targeted toward six food co-operatives who were impressed enough that they all joined the P6 national food movement. From there the co-op employees needed support materials to build up excitement and aid in their ability to respond to questions. To accomplish this, Spunk DM created a hardbound styleguide, a screenprinted poster for each store, which was followed by a kit which was completely wrapped in a P6 shirt to avoid excess packaging.

The Results

The client was extremely happy - ordering more shirts and posters for their home office in Boston. All the food co-operatives have become large supporters of Principle Six devoting wall space to graphics, creating their own posters and materials from the styleguide and continuing to grow their list of members (small farmers, small producers, local, co-op or non-profit businesses).
