TakeMeFishing.org Mobile Site

By Colle+McVoy

The Idea

The continued mission of the Recreational Boating + Fishing Foundation (RBFF) is to supply anglers and boaters with the necessary tools to plan, prepare and equip for a successful day on the water. Research prior to project kickoff told us that anglers and boaters (much like the rest of the country) were increasingly turning to mobile devices to find information.
We also knew that the key offerings of RBFF’s main site, TakeMeFishing.org, are elements that made a lot of sense to have on a mobile platform and that these offerings in a mobile form would help our clients in their goals of increasing fishing license and boat registration sales and in increasing fishing and boating participation overall. The key to the mobile site is its easy-to-navigate information. Specific offerings of the site include fish species facts; fishing and boating tips, tricks and information; fishing license/boat registration details; and the crown jewel ヨ the Find a Hotspot functionality. The Find a Hot Spot section gives users the ability to search for, save and e-mail specific data about the majority of waterbodies in the US. The mobile site is a holistic offering that could help users achieve success on the water.

Delivery of Work

TakeMeFishing.org/Mobile was designed to be a mobile site with an app inspired feel. The team utilized mobile-specific markup and movement from page to page, ably blurring that line between mobile site and native app. This design strategy took the strongest and most mobile-friendly elements of RBFF's TakeMeFishing.org and laid them out in a very streamlined and easy-to-use manner in a mobile environment.
Several creative disciplines were needed for a project this complex in scope, so team members were selected based on past experiences, general skill sets, and knowledge of the client's business and target audience.

The Results

With a mission of supplying anglers and boaters with the necessary tools to plan, prepare and equip for a successful day on the water, the creation and availability of a mobile site like TakeMeFishing.org/Mobile alone is a win for our clients. Particularly when one takes into account that there is currently no other mobile site offering in the greater fishing and boating category. With the considerable buzz and the positive feedback from both users and the industry, the recent launch of the mobile site is going even better than expected.

Data is unavailable for economy and people because the site just recently launched.

We are very fortunate to work with a client in RBFF whose brand mission has a direct and positive impact on the environment. As the vast majority of revenue from fishing license and boat registration sales goes directly to conservation of America's waterways, the success of TakeMeFishing.org/Mobile could and should have a direct correlation to enhanced funding for conservation in the U.S. The various offerings of the new mobile site will make it easier to purchase a fishing license or to register a boat, and the holistic information will improve user fishing and boating experiences, bringing them back for more. Increased participation in fishing and boating inherently increases conservation funding within our client's business model.

Recreational Boating + Fishing Foundation and Colle+McVoy have a partnership based on a collective hunger for the cutting edge. Whether it is in our award-winning print work, enhancements to an already thriving website, or new and creative programs and incentives to get people out on the water, our partnership has always kept us one step ahead of the fishing and boating category. The creation of TakeMeFishing.org/Mobile is yet another way that RBFF is moving the category forward and pushing the boundaries of an industry that has historically been very slow to adapt to the changing media usage and technology utilization of anglers and boaters.

Though only launched in early February, TakeMeFishing.org/Mobile has already been very warmly received by both users and publications.
