Design for Good: Furnish a Future

Explore Art Shanty Projects and Learn about YouthLink

NOTE: The event will be located on the shore of White Bear Lake County Park instead of on the ice, for weather-related safety reasons. Furnish a Future is a social impact awareness project created by AIGA Minnesota’s Design for Good initiative. We are partnering with YouthLink, a non-profit organization helping youth ages 16-23 experiencing homelessness to get back on their feet. At the interactive and artist-driven Art Shanty Projects, our team will set up a display for one day to spread awareness of YouthLink’s resources and celebrate the five-year anniversary of their Youth Opportunity Center (YOC). The YOC is dedicated to providing a variety of resources — from health care to education to employment — that provide long-term support of youth. The Design for Good: Furnish a Future display brings awareness and insight for visitors as they learn how the problem can be alleviated, and what they can do to help youth thrive.

This event is free and open to the public.

Amy Schleichert
Director of Communications
A lifelong artist and emerging designer, Amy has been a member of AIGA since 2012, which is when she attended her first Portfolio 1-on-1 event as a college student. Since receiving her BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in 2013, she has worked as a graphic designer for Bōbiam, a retail merchandise company, the Minnesota Orchestra, a Grammy-Award winning orchestra, and is currently a designer at Sigma Beauty, an international cult cosmetic brand headquartered in Minnesota. Recognizing the need to be an active participant in the design community, Amy was nominated to serve as AIGA Minnesota’s Director of Communications. In this position, she maintains all chapter communications, and serves various working committees in order to best accomplish their individual goals.

In her free time, she enjoys sharpening her culinary skills, playing music, getting creative in the art studio, sweating it out at the gym, and exploring new places. She is also a big proponent of the Oxford comma and drinking a glass of red wine daily.
