We are kicking off the series with a double presentation by two winners of the 2013 AIGA (Re)design Awards.

6:30 P.M. Presentation

From Polar Bears to Pythons: Bringing Real-World Issues Direct from the Field into Classrooms Worldwide through Adventure Learning Dr. Aaron Doering, professor of Learning Technologies and co-director of the Learning Technologies Media Lab at the University of Minnesota, has brought Adventure Learning to the forefront of education. He’s traveled to climate hotspots around the globe, collaborating with diverse cultures while millions of learners participated virtually in these journeys online. Doering will speak about his dogsledding expeditions crossing the circumpolar Arctic, and his latest projects: Earthducation, which investigates the intersections between education and sustainability on every continent and North of Sixty°, where climate change narratives are captured throughout the circumpolar Arctic.

7:30 PM Presentation

EPIC: Youth Farm Rebrand Kris Lindquist (Little) and Lauren Buckley (Olson) will share information about EPIC: Engaging Philanthropy, Inspiring Creatives, by highlighting the award-winning work they led for Youth Farm. EPIC rallies are eight, intense, fun weeks of collaboration that give professional creatives a chance to use their talents to create social change for children, families and education and network with other Twin Cities creatives. Melanie Stovall
Melanie Stovall
Associate Director, Sustainable Design
Melanie is a Minneapolis based designer with 5+ years experience in branding, interactive, print and illustration. Since graduating with a Bachelors from the the Art Institutes International Minnesota in 2011, she has worked as a Graphic Designer at Vetta-Zelo, an Art Director at FLM+ and is currently a Designer at Media Loft.

Melanie has been an active member in AIGA Minnesota since 2010. She has volunteered for Portfolio 1-on-1, the Volunteer Appreciation Party and served over a year term as Chair on Sustainable Design before becoming the Associate Director. Melanie is well connected to other organizations in the city, striving to make a positive impact on the environment. She enjoys projects that use design to influence change and loves that the Sustainable Design Committee is able to educate the community on environmental issues.
