THE LUSTIGS: a cover story, 1933-1961

Alvin Lustig (1993 AIGA Medalist) and Elaine Lustig Cohen (2011 AIGA Medalist) created a distinctive body of design work that melded the ideas of European modernism with a uniquely American approach to graphic design. THE LUSTIGS: a cover story exhibition will include covers designed and illustrated by Alvin and Elaine Lustig between 1933 and 1961. Guest lecturer for the series is renowned design historian Steven Heller (1999 AIGA Medalist), author of Born Modern: The Life and Design of Alvin Lustig. Heller was senior art director at The New York Times for more than 30 years, the author, editor, or co-author of over 130 books on design, and currently co-chair of the MFA Designer as Author department at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Amanda was introduced to AIGA in 2012 through the Minnesota chapter’s mixer, Cocktails with Creatives, and has been involved ever since. She has served on the Portfolio 1-on-1 committee for the past two years and this years’ Design Show committee. Currently, she is assisting in the planning of the 2014 AIGA Minnesota’s Volunteers Party. Being a part of the design community, especially this local chapter, has been a stellar part of her life and she looks forward to making a positive difference.

During the work week, Amanda is a committed in-house Creative Advisor at Gradient Financial Group in the Twin Cities, primarily performing account management, while also building responsive websites for clients. She’s a lucky lady to be on a team of 15 creatives, from designers to developers to videographers.

Amanda loves the outdoors, people, and having lots of fun! During her time away from work, she takes full advantage of being active during all seasons. Her favorite activities include 4-wheeling, boating, bike riding, snowmobiling, and is always up for connecting over a good cup of coffee for great conversation.
