Design for Good
AIGA’s Design for Good initiative tackles social sector problems through design thinking. We are a passionate and collaborative group of interdisciplinary design thinkers, and anyone is welcome to join our ranks. Our group has seen designers, strategists, illustrators, educators, researchers, engineers, students, and more. The broader our knowledge the better our brainstorming!
Using the design thinking methods adapted from the principles of IDEO, we brainstorm and collaborate to seek unorthodox, simple, economical, and effective solutions to local social sector problems. We get at the heart of the issues and build a solution from there. We create long term and short term projects, meeting monthly to develop our initial concepts into tactical fruition

This committee is seeking designers with a passion for making a difference when it comes to social issues. The goal of Design for Good is to create a climate of social impact among the design community, to address social and economic conditions locally, and to enhance the understanding of design thinking as a problem-solving tool. As part of national AIGA’s Design for Good initiative, AIGA Minnesota presented its first major program, “Change the World by Design: 5 Ways to Create Social Impact.” More recently, the initiative developed “Talkin’ Trash,” a composting awareness project, and partnered with architects from The Common Table to tell the story of local food systems at the 2014 Minnesota State Fair.
