This promotional poster series was for an annual conference held for inHouse (Target’s internal design agency. The 2011 conference held 3 speakers; Jim Coudal of Coudal Partners, Steven Harrington of National Forest and Jordan Crane of Wolff Olins. With an event itinerary that was constantly evolving, the promotional materials needed to be nimble enough to encompass all speakers, flexible enough to work for posters, table cards or onscreen, and bold enough to stand out in a studio space already filled with eye-catching work.

We created 3 sets of posters within the hallway entrance of the studio to give the largest visual impact. The conference was located in a state park setting, about 15 minutes north of the inHouse studio, so we decided to give a big wink to cabin culture, as well as cabin fever, and create an “upnorth” theme, including language and visuals that played on Minnesota’s northern icons.

    The Results

The posters were attention-grabbing, informative and helped set a relaxed and comfortable tone for the conference. The event was held at a Zero-Waste Facility, which informed our creative decisions about everything from promo materials to takeaway items.

After seeing a few industry events where the mood-setting décor was everywhere, but lackluster, the creative team made a conscious effort to put energy into creating a small number of well-crafted promo pieces that felt smart and relevant, but also let the speakers and the serene park location take center stage.
