This year’s Design Camp was special. It was the 40th consecutive Design Camp and celebrated four decades of history, relationships, connections, and creations. We were excited to bring together people who have been to camp many times and introduce new people to the Design Camp ethos – a chill, low-key, outdoor, up-north design conference. We wanted to celebrate plaid. 

With the outbreak of COVID 19, Camp became a virtual event with great speakers, workshops, trivia games, and swag. However, we still needed to find a way to create that “camp” feeling – where we could casually interact with new people, have a drink, wander around a lake, and sit by the campfire.

Using the fantastic design system created by Christiansen Creative, the team at Pixel Farm created an amazing online, interactive space for Design Camp. Campers could wander through a campground, talk with each other, have a virtual drink or two, and chill around the campfire. The virtual experience received great reviews from attendees and successfully recreated the camp experience on a virtual platform.
