Bang Brewing

Digital assets were the first official brand hand-offs. A logo for the Twitter account and press releases, and a swatch of repeating pattern for the Twitter background (which has now also been etched into the taproom bar.

The first objects to don the hoppy mark were the growlers, which function both as a transportation method for beer and as a walking billboards for the brewery. As soon as those jugs leave the bin it invites people to ask about their origin.

The white imprinted growler speaks to the stripped down, no frills essence of the brewery, whereas the red imprinted growler is the eye-catching sister people like to tweet about.

Coasters were produced in lieu of business cards, this way they can be used both in the taproom and given away at events.

Concept

Bang Brewing is a Saint Paul based brewery operating out of a two story grain bin. Owned by a husband and wife team that have day jobs as a software engineer and an executive art producer, the name Bang steams from how both industries refer to an exclamation point. When the venture was still in it’s homebrew stage, their file-naming convention started with a bang instead of the traditional hash tag.

A hop-inspired exclamation point was created to reference the typographic namesake. The logo type is comprised of custom letterforms that were designed to echo the points and curves in the hoppy mark. The mark has also been broken down into an abstract pattern.

When looking at the craft beer market so many brands are illustrative and complicated, which is just not Bang’s style. The brewa are kept simple (not to mention local and organic), some brews comprised of just four ingredients, so the branding reflects that with a limited color palette and distilled language.

Results

The client couldn't be happier. Our involvement on the original branding has grown into a beautiful (beer filled) relationship. Keg dressings (keg tape, keg collars, keg caps), taproom tokens, and promotional posters are all items currently in production.

As the brewery gains momentum foodies and craft beer lovers have started the Internet raving; the growlers almost always sneak into photos with a mention of being "handsome."

With a solid brand backing their efforts, we're happy to say our clients are on their way to become full time brewers.
