Poster created to promote a show by Nada Surf’s who were touring in support of their new album, “The Stars are Indifferent to Astronomy”. The idea of using constellations fit well with the album title and it was also an opportunity to draw letterforms not based on a typeface. I toyed around with the scene to be in a field in the middle of nowhere but the band’s songs seem more at home in an urban setting, so a cityscape seemed like a better fit. The type on the sign and windows was influenced by the signage for a coffee shop and tattoo parlor in South Minneapolis.
