Upward and Onward

After directly facing and working through an extremely challenging organizational crisis in 1981, MGDA elected an accomplished new board of directors in November to implement the original mission of the organization. Led by president Bob Fleming—Dick Stanley, Christia Blomquist, Debra Cohen, Robert Jensen, Dale Johnston, Monica Little, and Heather Soladay ably stepped into their leadership roles and strived to serve the best interests of the MGDA membership.

The board enthusiastically encouraged participation by launching a membership drive with enticing discounts (Walker, CA magazine, Print, and Print Bookshop). They succeeded in increasing membership to 102! In addition to the juried Minnesota Graphic Design Exhibit and the Lutsen Design Conference the board introduced innovative technical seminars and a tour of the DeStijl Exhibit at the Walker Art Center to their roster of events.
