Founded by Creative Director Mitch Paone and Managing Partner Meg Donohoe, DIA Studio has been instrumental in repositioning typography and motion at the center of brand design in recent years.

As smartphones and screens of all kinds reorganize viewership and the ways brands engage with customers, DIA Studio has collaborated with Squarespace, Nike, Adidas, and YouTube to create bespoke, moving typographic compositions from app to architectural scale. Trained as a jazz pianist, Paone brings a musician’s knowledge of tempo, arrangement, and rhythm to the creation of design systems that have invited the field to rethink the possibilities of formerly static approaches.

Mitch Paone is the creative director of New York and Chamonix-based creative agency DIA Studio. DIA Specializes in corporate and cultural visual identity systems, graphic design, and typography. DIA’s signature use of motion and generative tools has led to significant collaborations with clients such as Squarespace, Balenciaga, Pinterest, Nike, Saint Laurent, Apple, and many more. Additionally, Mitch lectures and leads workshops at conferences and universities worldwide. Most notably, Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL), Pratt Institute and the School for Visual Arts in New York.

Mitch recently held positions at Haute école d’art et de design – Genève (HEAD – Genève) and The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK). In his courses, he implemented DIA’s creative process into the academic curriculum, specifically focusing on motion and generative tools in a graphic design context.

Mitch and DIA studio partner Meg Donohoe are AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) members. Mitch is also a performing jazz pianist, composer, and type designer beyond DIA and academic endeavors.

About the Insights Lecture Series

For over three decades, the Walker Art Center and AIGA Minnesota have co-presented the Insights Design Lecture Series embracing the unexpected to present diverse, exploratory, and contemporary lecturers.

Featuring perspectives from around the world, Insights gives voice to adventurous design thinkers and makers. These designers often pose challenges and push the edges of their profession, in turn inspiring us to identify new perspectives in our own work.

Redefine your understanding of graphic design, dive into the thinking behind the work, then hang out after the lectures to meet the lecturers, grab a drink, and chat with your fellow design lovers.
