Turkish-born, Portland-based Serifcan Ozcan merges a love of the vernacular of Turkish design with clients ranging from Vogue Turkey, Squarespace, and Bud Light to Rhizome and Jeff Bridges.

As senior design director of concepts and graphics for Nike’s Jordan Brand, Ozcan explores how material culture, like sneakers and apparel, is used to form personal identity and subculture.

Ozcan works with a talented team of designers to define the look and feel of Jordan Brand products, design graphics, identity, packaging, and the conceptual development of seasonal narratives. He held several positions at Nike Inc., delivering global campaigns that extended to retail, brand experiences, events, digital, and out of home.

Prior, he held design positions at Wieden + Kennedy in New York, overseeing design deliverables for all accounts, including Sprite, ESPN, Heineken, and Delta Airlines; at Anomaly, where he was responsible for branding and communications; at SYPartners, where he worked on the brand strategy of IBM; and at Open, a design studio in New York City.

He holds an MFA degree in design from the School of Visual Arts. He was chosen as one of the Top 20 designers under 30 by Print Magazine and as one of the 25 emerging design talents by Step Inside Design. He received several awards from the Type Directors Club, Art Directors Club, AIGA, American Photography, American Illustration, I.D. Magazine, Eye Magazine, D&AD, American Society of Magazine Editors, Society of Publication Designers, and others. In his mind he never left New York; in reality, he lives in Portland, Oregon.

This will be a live, in-person event.

The video will be available on the Walker Channel later this spring.
There will be no livestream, so please join us.

About the Insights Lecture Series

Insights is a design lecture series for progressive creatives. A unique collaboration between the Walker Art Center and AIGA Minnesota, the series embraces the unexpected to present diverse, exploratory, and contemporary lecturers.
Featuring perspectives from around the world, Insights gives voice to adventurous design thinkers and makers. These designers often pose challenges and push the edges of their profession, in turn inspiring us to identify new perspectives in our own work.
For over three decades, the Walker Art Center and AIGA Minnesota have co-presented the Insights Design Lecture Series and brought the world’s most adventurous design thinkers and makers to the Twin Cities.
Redefine your understanding of graphic design, dive into the thinking behind the work, then hang out after the lectures to meet the lecturers, grab a drink, and chat with your fellow design lovers.
Past lectures are archived on the Walker Art Center YouTube channel.
