We invite you to submit your nominations for the 2021–2023 AIGA Minnesota Board of Directors. Self-nominations are welcome and encouraged. AIGA Minnesota is a 100% volunteer-run organization. We’re looking for local design leaders and enthusiasts to step up and commit to a term of service to help shape the future of the Minnesota chapter. Together, we can do amazing things.

Serving on the AIGA Minnesota board

Help us shape our community while growing as a leader, designer, and collaborator.

  • Commitment: A two year agreement to serve on the Chapter board, as well as the time, motivation and dedication to make a difference in the community you live and work in. It is hard work yet rewarding as you cultivate a network in the area and beyond thanks to the nation-wide network of AIGA chapters.
  • Responsibility: You are part of and representing the Minnesota design community. AIGA Minnesota’s Board of Directors is a body elected of and by the members, which holds the association in trust for AIGA members past, present, and future. We are committed to having an inclusive community embracing different perspectives and viewpoints. And we are equally dedicated to providing a safe and productive experience for everyone who participates in AIGA and to treating everyone with respect.
  • AIGA Membership: All active Chapter board members are to be members of AIGA. Directors (voting) are required to join AIGA at the Supporting level or higher. Associate Directors (non-voting) are required to join at the Contributor level or higher.
  • Show Up: Support your fellow board member’s passions, projects & programming. Board members are asked to attend as many chapter events as possible in addition to board meetings and annual chapter retreats.

Submit your self or peer nominations now or contact us for more information on any of these positions that will be opening up on the Chapter board. Volunteers are also needed to support various Chapter programming and initiatives throughout the year.

Vice President

Have you spent time volunteering with AIGA Minnesota and now want to make a more significant impact? The Vice President role is involved in all of AIGA Minnesota’s activities, with major contributions through strategy, programming, and operations. This position works to maintain the high quality of Chapter programs and initiatives and ensures member and community needs are in alignment. The Vice President also acts to support the President and the rest of the board in their functions.

Treasurer

Budgets, spreadsheets, financial advice, and more! The Treasurer oversees the overall financial health of the Chapter and acts as an advisor to and liaison between Chapter board and Chapter financial resources and systems. Advise board in financial matters to ensure that Chapter programs and activities are fiscally viable; establish long-term financial goals for the Chapter; and ensure alignment of local financial goals with national AIGA initiatives as well as a local Chapter purpose statement.

Director of Education

Are you interested in connecting with students and educators? The Director of Education oversees the chapter’s education activities, by developing and nurturing relationships between AIGA Minnesota and regional educators, schools, student groups and students. To act as an advisor to and liaison between the chapter board, educators and students to ensure that chapter activities address critical education issues and student needs. To supervise and work with the student representative to ensure that chapter programs and communications strategies offer educationally enriching opportunities. To ensure that AIGA Minnesota’s education objectives are aligned with AIGA national initiatives as well as our chapter’s purpose statement

Director of Technology

Do you have experience in WordPress and web development? The Director of Technology oversees and improves on electronic communications, systems and processes in support of AIGA Minnesota’s interactive, communication, and programming needs.

Director of Membership

The Director of Membership ensures Chapter membership activities are aligned with AIGA national initiatives as well as local Chapter goals. The Director acts as advisor to and liaison between Chapter board and Chapter membership to ensure Chapter activities meet the needs of the membership. The Director develops membership growth strategies and oversees any Chapter activity measuring member satisfaction in collaboration with AIGA ambassadors.

Director of Legacy Programming

Are events and logistics your jam? The Director of Legacy Programming oversees Chapter programming efforts that produce the Chapter’s legacy events: Portfolio 1-on-1, Design Camp, and Design Show. The Director will ensure that these events continue to be developed in the Chapter’s best interests, are produced within budget and contract terms, and are revenue-generating or revenue-neutral. Further, the Director will ensure that commensurate with longstanding tradition, these events continue to align with Chapter objectives by offering benefits including educational and networking opportunities to the Chapter membership. The Director will oversee the formation and smooth and continued operation of committees who, led by their respective committee Chairs, will produce the events.

Director of Alliances

Interested in finding and connecting with other orgs and projects to partner with? The Director of Alliances oversees Chapter efforts to identify and seek out opportunities to collaborate and strengthen ties with other local and regional organizations. The Director leads efforts to develop programming partnership opportunities into actual short-term programming and long-term relationships. As part of this process, the Director will work closely with the Vice President to set strategic direction to ensure that partnerships are mutually beneficial and are in the best interest of the Chapter’s mission and goals and benefit Chapter membership.

Committee Chairs

We’re also currently looking for AIGA members who are interested in leading our various programming committees and initiatives such as UX/Digital Design, Emerging Designers and Design for Good. Specific roles and time commitment will vary by committee.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Not ready to commit to joining the Chapter board quite yet? We’re also looking for members to join various committees to support AIGA Minnesota’s programming and initiatives throughout the year. Specific roles and time commitment will vary by committee.

Brent Larson
President
Brent is an award winning Motion, 3D, and Graphic designer with 20 years of experience working in the architectural, manufacturing, legal, corporate, and film industries as a solopreneur, agency, and in-house designer. He has experience in illustration, graphic design, product design, 3D modeling & animation, motion graphics, video production, live & virtual event production, presentation design, art direction, and project management. He currently works as a corporate in-house Principal Motion and Graphic Designer in the MedTech industry.

Before becoming AIGA Minnesota President, Brent served as Vice President from 2022-2023 and Chair of the In-House Designers Committee from 2019 - 2023.

Brent volunteers as a mentor for emerging designers and is a member of the AIGA Minnesota Mind to Mind Mentorship Program Committee.

His interests include history, film, design, animation, illustration, 3D printing, model making, woodworking, golf, bowling, fishing, and restoring things.
