Portfolio 1-on-1 Scholarship Opportunities

About the 2018 AIGA Portfolio 1-on- 1® Scholarships

Eligibility
To be eligible to win any of the scholarships listed below, you must be a current AIGA member and enrolled in an academic design program (winners will be validated). You must also be a registered participant at the 2018 AIGA Minnesota Portfolio 1-on- 1 student portfolio conference.

Apply
You can complete the first part of your registration easily through the Portfolio 1-on- 1 online registration form, or via email after finishing your Portfolio 1-on- 1 online registration. The AIGA Minnesota Education Committee will email you an essay question after receiving your application. (Please watch for an email from [email protected])

Deadline
Your application and completed essay must be received via email to [email protected] no later than midnight on Monday, April 9, 2018 (no extensions). If we do not receive your essay in time, your portfolio will be disqualified.

After you apply
Prepare your portfolio. After applying via email, you’ll need to drop off your portfolio for judging when you check in for Portfolio 1-on- 1 on April 12. All portfolios must be dropped off during event check-in, no later than 9am on Thursday, April 12, 2018. Email [email protected] with any questions.

Available Scholarships
AIGA MINNESOTA SCHOLARSHIP: $1,500 (two available)
These scholarships are made possible through AIGA Minnesota and its members. AIGA Minnesota is the fourth largest chapter by membership, but regarded as the second-most active membership nationally in terms of events, committee work, and membership participation.

AIGA MINNESOTA FELLOWS SCHOLARSHIP: $2,000
The Minnesota recipients of the Fellow Award, which is the highest honor an AIGA chapter may bestow on one of its members, have generously increased their scholarship this year because they are looking for a student with exceptional leadership and volunteer experience. To be eligible for this scholarship, you must answer an additional question emailed to you along with the essay question.

SENIOR DESIGNERS SCHOLARSHIP: $1,500
This scholarship is awarded to honor the contributions of senior designers to the graphic design profession through business, teaching, volunteering and leadership.

FRANKE+FIORELLA SCHOLARSHIP: $1,500
This scholarship is made possible through a donation by Franke+Fiorella—a leading brand identity design consultancy. They build iconic brands for local and multinational clients through thoughtful brand strategy and engaging identity design.

SMARTPRESS SCHOLARSHIP: $1,500
Smartpress is a premium online printing company for creative professionals and will be looking to award their scholarship to an exceptional print portfolio.

LITTLE PRODUCTION DESIGNER SCHOLARSHIP: $1,500
Monica Little is the founder of Little and received an AIGA Fellow award in 2012. This year, Monica is sponsoring a scholarship which will honor a portfolio strong in production art / production design skills.

HOW WINNERS ARE SELECTED
Applicants for these awards will be judged on their portfolio of work and their written essay(s). One recipient will be chosen for each award and scholarships will be presented during Portfolio 1-on- 1 on April 12, 2018. Winners are expected to be present to receive their awards. The judges will be evaluating eligible candidates on the following criteria:

Conceptual Skill: Ability to develop ideas beyond the basics of an assignment
Creative Skill: Expression of innovation and imagination
Craft: Attention to detail, execution, and presentation
Communication: Ability to communicate your ideas clearly both within your portfolio and submitted essay

Hi, I'm a designer, illustrator, educator, and artist based in Minnesota.

After graduating from Alexandria Technical College in 2017, I went on to get my Bachelor's Degree from Bemidji State University with triple emphasis in exhibit design, graphic design, and studio arts. I graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in the spring of 2022 with my MFA.

Currently, I am an experience designer at X-FCTR. We are an agency that focuses on consumer engagement through both digital and live brand activations.
