AN ART & DESIGN PROJECT FOR MINNEAPOLIS TEENS BY JOE DUFFY, DUFFY DESIGN, and AIGA Minnesota

Share your passion for art and design with the next generation

We’re in need of a handful of volunteers to lead a group of 20 middle school kids participating in the Loppet program as they execute the Trailhead mural on June 25-27, designed by Joe Duffy. Your participation in the mural project will provide encouragement for artistically talented 13, 14 and 15 year olds to pursue a career in art/design.

When?
Monday, June 25 – Wednesday, June 27
10:00 am – 3:00 pm each day
(Note, you may volunteer for a single day or the entire project.)

What?
You will guide a small group of kids assigned to you in executing the Trailhead mural designed by Joe Duffy.

The Trailhead mural at Theodore Wirth (detail shown above) will cover a huge interior wall in the main hall that has floor to ceiling windows looking out on the beautiful trails of the park. The building is scheduled for completion in June.

“The Trailhead mural project at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis is very exciting for me because it is founded on a premise that I’ve held dear based on my experience as an artistic kid; encouragement for artistically talented 13,14 and 15 year olds to pursue a career in art/design.

As I’ve told you, art was all I wanted to do when I was young and my parents, high school teachers and counselors told me that I shouldn’t pursue a career in art because it wouldn’t lead to a successful life. Fortunately, I disregarded their advice and because I did, I have enjoyed an amazing career and life as a designer. I want to encourage young people by having them experience the creation of an artistically designed mural in a place where they can also experience outdoor athletics in the middle of our great city.

We are in need of artistic young people in the business of design. I believe that the best design comes from art, not computers, which are wonderful “tools” but the art comes first. Mural projects like this will help teenagers understand this and the business of design in the U.S. will benefit. Hopefully this mural project in Minneapolis will be become the prototype for a series of AIGA sponsored murals in every major design market in the country.” – Joe Duffy
