Design Chair and Professor
Minneapolis College of Art and Design
Title: Open-ended Report
Company: Walker Art Center
Catergory: Books
This was an extremely difficult choice because of the tremendous quality and diversity of the entries this year. If I am forced to select only one piece, my choice is the Walker Art Center OPEN-ENDED Report. In my opinion, it is smart, forward thinking, easy to navigate and rich with complexity. Everything was beautifully considered from the binding to the structure of the page layouts and to the saturation of the inks on the paper. It is amazing to see how well the photos snapped with definition even on the uncoated papers. I loved the shock of the red paper and the sophistication of yellow pages running through it. Overall it was a real pleasure to touch, see and read Again, it was difficult to single one piece out because there were so many exemplary designs in the show.
