Title:The A-B-SEE Visual/Verbal Dictionary
School: CVA
Category: Student
The challenge would be daunting even for the most grizzled veteran. Take words from the list of 240 words 6th grader kids need to know and then define their meaning through written metaphor and iconography so that a 9-10 year-old child can easily grasp each words’ meaning. Over the two days of judging this is one entry that we all kept discussing. It was the full package, absolutely brilliant concept, great well thought out design and witty copywriting. The solution is tight enough to go to market immediately. Frankly, we couldn’t stop flipping through the cards ourselves. My suggestion: Hire Braden before some other lucky studio does!
This project was such an amazing stand out for student work—or for professional work for that matter. A tremendous amount of good thinking and good design—really extraordinary—it just blew us all away.
Braden Wise’s The A-B-See Visual/Verbal Dictionary, is a wonderful example of design doing its best work. Any designer who fully grasps metaphor is a successful designer, and any designer who can create a way to convey information to children through metaphor is a natural-born teacher. The project was a victory in thinking and craftsmanship, beautiful both in its capacity to communicate and its physical execution. Simply awesome, The A-B-See Visual/ Verbal Dictionary is a WOW moment.
